Los Pobres

In his mind's eye Ramóncito could see

the spring in the rocks where the stallion Del Oro drank,

the bruja's cave in the wild Sierra Madre,

the street in La Puerta del Sol where
                                     Trouble was killed.

   He imagined his father's face

and dreamed of finding Trouble's treasure.

                         Francisco

laughed at his dreams.

The deception had begun ten years ago,
when Trouble went with Francisco to La Puerta del Sol.

They rested in the plaza . . .

where Trouble and Serafina met.

Serafina, age 10

Francisco and Serafina buried Trouble

by the banks of the Sonora River.

Jenny gave birth to Trouble's baby alone in his casita.

She named him Ramóncito.

Manuelo met Mama and Ramóncito at the station.

Ramóncito had seen all that Casa Vasquez had to offer.

Road to the ruins

The Rio Sangria was deeper and swifter than before.

It was good to be home.

Light shone through a crack in the wall.

Francisco played his guitar...                 and won Mama's heart.

And brought all manner of change into Ramón's life.

Mama was having a baby...

Francisco's baby.

Ramón was no longer the center of the universe.

It was time to seek his bandit grandfather's treasure.
